Thirty Minutes in a Random Field Cures My Creative Funk

In January of 2021 it had been a year of covid restrictions and minimal shooting. I was feeling bored and uninspired.

I reached out to a dear friend of mine, S, and asked her if she and her boyfriend would want to take some pictures with me. I picked a field I drove by weekly that was off the side of a busy road. I think at first maybe S and her boyfriend were unsure of what I was thinking.

We had them dress in monochrome colors as much as possible - she in all beige/off white and he in all black.

We spent 30 minutes just having fun. And I had full creative freedom. This 30 minute session led to some of my most favorite couple photos to date. The most popular pins on my pinterest board. And a realization that sometimes when you’re in a rut you need to just get a couple of friends and make something from your head, come to life.

So the next time you’re in a funk, take 30 minutes, pick a random location you think of often, and go wild.
