Moody Orcas Island Engagement Session
Being a Washington photographer, you never REALLY know what the weather will be like. You can assume rain, or fog, or mist, or sprinkling. Most days you can assume it will be anything but sunshine. Besides summer of course - at least we can assume sun from June to September!
I drove out to Anacortes to catch an early 8am ferry to the San Juan Islands. I hadnβt met E + R, but I knew from our emailing back and forth it was going to be a magical engagement session; without a doubt.
We met up in downtown Eastsound, one of my favorite little areas on Orcas. Thereβs such a cute quaintness to the town and really so many reasons Orcas is best kept tiny. It feels like you stepped into another magical world.
We worked our way from downtown to a pier nearby, then drove over to a cove that had stunning views of the islands all around. It really became the dreamiest PNW engagement session. The trees, the fog, the drizzle, all of it was perfect. We took our time walking, talking, staring at little treasures along the shore and looking for the right places. It rained off and on but none of us were bothered - this is Washington, after all.
I always make sure not to overly pose my couples, or pose them at all - I read them, study them, see what they naturally lean toward and how they act. From there we create together. Itβs candid. Itβs organic. Itβs meaningful and intimate. It makes room to create photos that reflect who they are in every way. WHICH IS REALLY ALL I WANT AS A PHOTOGRAPHER.
Although Orcas isnβt as close to Bellingham as one would hope, the ferry, the town, the stunning views all around make it well worth the venture. I would say this is one of my new top favorite session locations in San Juan county.
Itβs just unreal. IN THE BEST WAY.
