Countryside Wedding in Dorset, Vermont

To understand how I ended up photographing a wedding in the tiny village of Dorset, Vermont, you have to go back to 2020. So let’s start here: being a photographer who is close to the Canadian border has it’s advantages. One of them is having Peace Arch Park nearby. This is a neutral territory for both Canadians and Americans; one of the only places (maybe the only??) that citizens without passports or with border restrictions can hang out freely. During 2020 I shot dozens of elopements and microweddings here. They actually kept my calendar filled that entire year.

Enter these two humans.

NH grew up in Vermont. ND grew up in Montreal. In order for them to marry with the border being completely shut down in 2020 (thank-you covid!), they’d have to marry at Peace Arch Park. NH knew she wanted to spend the rest of her life with ND. She knew if it wasn’t for covid, they’d be having the wedding of their dreams. But in the meantime, to be able to live in the same country, together, they’d have to get married.

So they both flew across the country (from their seperate locations) and met at Peace Arch. It was NH, ND, his best friend, and their officiant. It was truly one of the most beautiful and surreal ceremonies; overflowing with intention in its minimality.

After my time with ND, she reached out if I’d ever consider going to Vermont to shoot her “real wedding” at her sister’s.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

YES!!!!!!!!

Being a wife and mom doesn’t put a ton of space aside for me to travel; especially on my own. But I always get excited when it does happen.

Fast forward to July 2021 and you have a stunning wedding celebrating the love of NH and ND - her dream wedding.

Simple. Relaxed. Down-to-earth. All their favorite people surrounding them. And so dang beautiful.
